In this post you will see the installation procedure for Tableau Server 2019.1 beta version on a windows OS. Before we start, download the setup file from prerelease.tableau.com. If it’s an older version, you can download setup file from tableau.com directly. You may use https://www.tableau.com/products/server to find out a right version.

Step 1) Navigate to the setup file directory, right click on the file and Run as administrator.
Step 2) Here you will see the exact version of Tableau server you are going to install. Click Next to continue.
Step 3) You have no option here. Just click on I accept the agreement and Next to continue.
Step 4) Select the folder where you want to install Tableau Server. It can be non default directory. Click Next once you select the folder.
Step 5) At this setup Tableau Server setup will check your hardware metrics to confirm if they have met the minimum requirements are not. Click Next to continue further.
Step 6) You have to choose whether it’s new server or it’s a new node you are adding to existing server. In our case, it will be new server. So select Create new Tableau Server Installation and click Next to continue.
Step 7) At this stage Tableau is ready to install server. Just click on Install to proceed with the installation.
Step 8) Tableau will setup TSM(Tableau Services Manager) which helps you in activating and configuring the product. To install TSM click Next.
Step 9) Once the TSM is installed, it openes TSM web UI in a browser. You can open the same using https://localhost:8850. On this login page, enter your username and password. This username should be local administrator account. Click on Sign In once you entered the details.
Step 10) Enter the product key if you have. Or else click on Stat Tableau Server Trail to start with 14 days trial.
Step 11) Registration process. Fill in your details as per entries and then click Register to complete the registration process.
Step 12) At this stage, you have to select authentication type, Run As Service Account, Gateway Port and Sample workbooks option. You change Identity store later. You have the flexibility to change the Run As account and port as well. So be sure on which identity store you will be using. Click Initialize once you are done with all of these options.
Initialization process could take a while.
Step 13) Once the initialization process completes successfully, click on Continue to setup the initial admin user.
Step 14) Fill in the details. This user will act as server administrator. The url highlighted here can be http://localhost as well if you are opening from the same desktop where you have installed Tableau Server. Click on New Administrator Account once you are ready to get on.
There you go. Your Tableau Server is now installed and configured successfully.
Click on Status tab to see the server individual process status. It should be green.
